Payment Information (advanced)

#1 Student Expense Fee   AKA "Student Fee" AKA "Student TripFee"  Explained

The student assessment and travel fee is sort of a catch all fee that covers but not limited to the following.  Four inter-island flights, lodging on the big island and Kauai (lodging for Oahu is covered by either your airline or land only package – see section 1 of this document), van rental, fuel, insurance, guest lectures, admissions to parks and activities etc.  This fee is different than the tuition as it covers costs, not classes.  This fee is roughly $TBD and a definite amount will be available some time in December.  The fee is comprised of two payments.  #1) $TBD deposit #2) $TBD balance payment.

Steps to Paying the Student Assessment and Travel Fee

  1. Pay the deposit (due ASAP) – this reserves you a spot on the trip*

#2 Student Tuition    Explained

The heart of the Hawaiian Field Studies Program is the educational experience that it provides.  The trip to Hawaii lasts just 2 weeks, however the 13 college credit hours you may earn will stay with you forever.  You pay for your tuition as soon as you have been registered for classes.  Please see “The Steps to Registering for Classes” section of this website.

Regarding tuition and what it covers please read the following exerpt:
This information is taken directly from the www.dcccd.edu website.

Tuition is the dollar amount you pay for your courses.  The amount of tuition you pay is based on where you live an the number of credit hours you are taking.

If you live in Dallas County the cost is $41 per credit hour ($533 for 13hrs).*
If you live our of Dalls County the cost is $76 per credit hour ($988 for 13hrs).**
If you live out of state/country the cost is $121 per credit hour ($1573 for 13hrs.**

#3 Airline Package / Land ONLY Package  Explained

The travel to Hawaii is ultimately the responsibility of the student.  You may use airline miles, take a cruise, search online for a fare or swim if you like.  The Hawaiian Field Studies Program uses Rufe Snow Travel based in North Richland Hills for our travel package.  The package usually costs around $TBD and includes the following; airfare, lodging on Oahu and transportation to and from Honolulu airport.  A detailed amount of this package’s actual cost will be available some time in February.  When it comes to booking your airline you have 2 options:
            #1 Book Rufe Snow package
            # 2 Book your own flight & the Land ONLY package

If you choose to book Rufe Snow package here are your steps.

  1. Contact Rufe Snow Travel 817-498-2455
  2. Pay the deposit of $350 (Due ASAP)*
  3. Pay the balance of the airfare by date given by Rufe Snow
  4. Email hawaii@dcccd.edu to let us know that it is done

If you choose to book your own flight here are your steps

  1. Contact Rufe Snow Travel 817-498-2455
  2. Let them know that you want the “Land ONLY” Package***
  3. Pay the land package of $TBD (Due ASAP)
  4. Book your flight
  5. Send an itinerary of you flight details to hawaii@dcccd.edu

A couple more notes about booking your flight.  You may choose to book your flight for any day you like.  Our only stipulation is that you arrive in time to begin the field studies and you depart some time after final exams.  Rewarding yourself with a few days vacation is a nice way to end the field studies experience.  Keep in mind that travel outside of the program is your responsibility. This includes hotel, transportation arrangements etc. et. al. I will be more than happy to make reccomendations for you if you like.  More contact information for Rufe Snow Travel below.
